In recognition of heroic act of valour of Captain (Honorary) Imliakum Ao Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) 2 Naga Regiment during the 1999 Kargil Conflict, the Chuchuyimpang citizens erected a monolith in honour of brave son of the soil at its native village Chuchuyimpang on August 2, 2024.
The monolith was inaugurated by S Supongmeren Jamir, MP Lok Sabha in the presence of Brigadier Vikram Singh DIG, HQ 7 Sector, Assam Rifles and ranks and files from the security forces and district administration.
Chief Guest S. Supongmeren Jamir, MP Lok Sabha, expressed great honour in having a war hero among them, proudly noting the role of Nagas in safeguarding the nation. He praised the bravery and courage of the jawans, urging them to maintain peace and harmony and to foster a positive impression as Nagas are peace lovers.
Jamir urged the defence forces to uphold brotherhood and act as peacekeepers. He proposed that the Government of India and the military utilize war legends and valour recipients as ambassadors to travel across the country, inspiring and educating the youth about military service and the sacrifices involved. He assured that this suggestion would be forwarded to the Ministry of Defence.
At the inauguration of the Warrior Monolith, Jamir expressed hope that it would inspire more young people to join the defence forces. He conveyed gratitude to God and the forefathers for blessing the community with a brave warrior like Captain Imliakum, emphasizing the importance of Imliakum’s well-being and urging everyone to pray for his long life.

He highlighted the privilege of having him in their midst and hoped the monolith would strengthen the bond within Chuchuyimpang Village. Jamir stressed the significance of maintaining a healthy and pure relationship with God, dedicating the Memorial Stone to Him and appreciating all contributors to its creation.
Jamir acknowledged the historical significance of the village, recalling their forefathers’ legacy as great headhunters and praising Chuchuyimpang Village for fostering harmony and continuous service to the community. He recognized the village’s ability to find positive solutions to problems, highlighting their strong faith and vision.
He expressed pride in Captain Imliakum’s achievements and the village’s contribution to the country, also appreciating the courage of retired Captain Sanwar. Jamir emphasized viewing the Army as guardians, encouraging brotherhood and peace.
Jamir concluded by reiterating the government’s respect for war legends and the importance of using their experiences to inspire and educate the younger generation about the significance of the Army and the uniform.
Brigadier Vikram Singh praised the construction of the memorial in the name of the living legend Captain Imliakum Ao, highlighting it as a great idea and honour. He emphasized that a community or village that honour its soldiers for their duties and sacrifices stands above all, noting that, “These soldiers are extraordinary people.”
Singh underscored the significance of Imliakum’s supreme valour in defending the nation, and expressed pride in etching his name into the Warrior Monolith for future generations. He also announced that Kargil Vijay Diwas (Kargil Victory Day) will be celebrated annually at this Warrior Monolith, and promised to advocate for the initiation of civic action programs as requested by the villagers of Chuchuyimpang to the military high command.
The monolith is dubbed as the Warrior’s Monolith- it is written that at the height of the 1999 Kargil conflict, a fearless son Chuchuyimpang village sepoy Imliakum Ao of the 2 Naga Regiment displayed an exemplary heroism by raiding an enemy sentry position in the wee hour of 7th July, 1999 leading to the capture of five mountains-Rocky knob twin Bump, Safid Nala, Pt.5063 and Naga Hill. He further awarded the heroic medal of honour, the Maha Vir Chakra (MVA) on 19th November, 2020.
Nukshimoa, Ex-President of CSM, presented the significance of the Monolith. The program was chaired by Chubatemjen, Tatar. Pastor I. Asang from A.F. pronounced the invocation, and the Youth Ministry of CBC presented a dedicatory song. L. Temsu Imsong, Executive Chairman of Senso Mungdang, delivered the vote of thanks, followed by a benediction from Benjongsenla AP (W) CBC.
