MLA and Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, in collaboration with the Department of School Education, organised a Consultative Workshop for Government School Teachers under the 39 Sanis Assembly Constituency on 25th October 2024 at the Multipurpose Hall in Sanis Town.

During the Review session of the Schools, Mhathung Yanthan engaged in open discussion with teachers, headmasters, village council chairmen, and other stakeholders where the attendees shared their grievances and challenges regarding the current state of schools in the constituency.

Yanthan emphasised that the primary aim of the workshop was to enhance school performance and improve student enrolment, which he noted is currently low. He highlighted concerns over the declining standard of education, attributing the issues to a lack of seriousness among stakeholders despite the government’s support. The MLA expressed hope that the workshop would lead to meaningful improvements in both performance and enrolment, and committed to following up on the resolutions made during the discussions.

Esther Kikon, Coordinator of the Educational Block Resource Centre (EBRC) in Sanis, presented a PowerPoint highlighting the necessity of having teachers present in schools to implement activities effectively. She underscored that a strong community is built upon a high-quality education system, warning that many schools are nearing a crisis point.

During the workshop, it was resolved that all schools would undertake an enrolment drive for the upcoming academic year. Additionally, it was agreed that teachers should not seek transfers without replacements or prior notification to the SMC, SMDCs and village councils. The attendees also resolved to report irregular teaching staff and urged the government to take decisive action against them, while calling for the immediate deployment of teachers to fill vacant positions.

The event was chaired by Daisy Tsopoe from the EBRC, with an invocation prayer led by Khodao Mozhui, Pastor of Hajang Baptist Church. An overview of the schools was presented by Raphael Zubonthung, SDEO of Sanis, and a special number was performed by GHSS Sungro. The session concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks from the chairperson.
