DDMA Chümoukedima issues advisory on trenches and open water bodies

In the wake of the recent unfortunate incident of drowning of a young boy in an open pond, and to obviate the occurrence of such incidents & for general public safety, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Chümoukedima has issued the following advisory to all Village Councils within Chümoukedima District. The advisory especially emphasized on the areas with trenches or water bodies that are like to pose significant hazard:-

  1. Any open and deep pond/fishery should be properly fenced to prevent accidental falls or to ward off unsuspecting individuals from venturing into them.
  2. Clear and visible signages should be put up in prominent places in the vicinity of such water bodies to alert the public of the potential dangers. (e.g. WARNING DEEP WATER)

  1. Particular attention should be given to trenches dug for the purpose of extracting earth or boulders. These sites should be securely fenced off by the property owners without delay.

 

“The safety of the public being paramount, all village councils must ensure that the above measures are taken by the property owners concerned,” appealed the DDMA.
