The Headhunters emerged as champions of the 8th edition of Captain N. Kenguruse MVC Memorial Football Tournament in thrilling final match at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, on 12 November 2024. The Headhunters secured the winner’s prize of ₹3 lakhs, while Mez & Co. finished as runners-up, taking home ₹1.5 lakhs.
Imkong L. Imchen, Advisor for Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation, Government of Nagaland, delivered a closing address as the Chief Guest. Honoring the memory of Captain N. Kenguruse, MVC, Imchen paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the fallen soldier. He emphasized that Capt. Kenguruse’s legacy serves as a powerful inspiration, reminding everyone of the values of selfless service, sacrifice, and integrity.
Imchen encouraged the young players to carry these ideals beyond the football field, fostering leadership and sportsmanship in their lives.
He praised the Indian Army and Assam Rifles for their commitment to promoting sports and engaging with Nagaland’s youth, acknowledging the tournament as a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and dedication.
Encouraging the young players to continue striving for excellence in all pursuits, he urged them to embrace the values of resilience, teamwork, and leadership. The Advisor highlighted the importance of community development, environmental conservation, and nation-building, calling on the youth to play active roles in these areas. He further commended the Indian Army and Assam Rifles for their vital role in nation-building, lauding their commitment to security, humanitarian efforts, and peacebuilding.
In his closing words, Imchen expressed optimism for the future, inspired by the young leaders and changemakers gathered. In addition to the main awards, several players received individual honors. The tournament’s Golden Boot went to Kevisanyü, the Best Defender award was claimed by Thejangulie Zatsu, Best Goalkeeper was awarded to Dziesengulie, Best Midfielder went to Winamthiu, while Hemping. L was recognized as the Best Player of the tournament.
