DCPU Noklak holds consultative meeting with stakeholders on child protection

Noklak: Meeting aimed to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders, review existing child protection mechanisms

The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Noklak, organized a consultative meeting with key stakeholders on child protection under the Mission Vatsalya initiative of the Department of Social Welfare. The meeting was held at the DC’s conference hall on 18th October 2024.

The program aimed to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders, review existing child protection mechanisms, and develop collaborative strategies to address challenges in safeguarding children’s rights within the district.

Key highlights of the program included discussions on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, child rights, and related legislation, with a focus on implementation within schools. Kito Ayemi, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), delivered a presentation outlining the various programs and services under Mission Vatsalya. Arikumba, Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of strengthening child protection frameworks.

The meeting featured a discussion session involving representatives from critical departments, including the Police Department/ Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), Medical Department, Education Department, Labour Department, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), and Child Care Institution (CCI). This collaborative dialogue aimed to enhance coordination and ensure effective child protection measures in the district.
