The ANCSU has sought the immediate intervention of the Central Ministry for the early release of the 2nd installment of Post Matric Scholarship (ST) pending amount for the year 2023-2024.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Higher Education & Tourism, Government of Nagaland, the ANCSU acknowledged the department (Scheme Implementing Agency of PMS ST) for interceding with the concerned Ministry and prioritizing the disbursement of the 2nd instalment of the Post Matric Scholarship to students. However, it expressed dismay to witness the Ministry of Tribal Affairs repeatedly disregarding the primary purpose of the scholarship by releasing the funds in piecemeal, year after year.

“The disbursement of an inadequate amount of scholarship to genuine beneficiaries has caused distress and anxiety among the student community, especially as the odd semester ends and new admissions for the even semester begin. We understand that the Central Ministry of Tribal Affairs has released only 75% of the central share to the state, while the remaining 25% amounting to Rs. 12,74,01,000 (Rupees Twelve Crore Seventy-Four Lakh One Thousand only) is yet to be sanctioned for PMS ST 2023-2024,” stated the ANCSU.

Against this backdrop, the Union has requested the competent authority to give serious consideration to the matter and to urgently engage with the concerned Ministry for the early release and disbursement of the pending 2nd instalment of PMS ST.

“While we acknowledge your commendable involvement in ensuring the success of the upcoming Hombill Festival, the students are mentally and emotionally disturbed by this pressing issue.

We strongly believe that addressing these concerns will not only resolve the fundamental needs of the student community but also uphold the commitment of your esteemed authority to the educational welfare of students in Nagaland. We place our humble confidence in your ability to take the necessary steps to resolve this issue at the earliest,” implored the Union.
