7-day Gandhi Shilp Bazar underway at Kohima

Kohima: 50 artisans from NE states participating in the event

The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar was inaugurated at Dimori Cove Resort, Kipfuzha, Kigwema, Kohima, on 1st December 2025. The Gandhi Shilp Bazar aims to support local artisans by providing them a platform to showcase and sell their handcrafted products.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Special Guest, Commissioner & Secretary, Sericulture, and Team Leader, NEPED, Nagaland, K. Libanthung Lotha (IAS). The event was also attended by esteemed guests, including Neihunuo Sorhie, Padmashri Awardee; Y. Lipongse Thongstar, Addl. Director DICC, Nagaland; Dr. Mayonmi Shimray, Director in Charge, IGNOU, Kohima, Nagaland; Rima Sonar, Asstt. Director (Handicraft), HSC, Kohima and Rajib Chandra Roy, HPO, Office of the Development Commissioner, HSC, Kohima.

In her address, Rima Sonar, Assistant Director (i/c), Handicrafts Service Centre (HSC), Kohima, reiterated the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts)’s dedication to the growth and global promotion of Indian handicrafts. she commended the artisans for their role in preserving traditional crafts and stressed the importance of sustainability and innovation in the sector.

The Gandhi Shilp Bazar is expected to draw significant footfall, offering artisans increased visibility and sales opportunities, while allowing visitors to experience and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Nagaland’s crafts.

The 7-day program, which will run till 7 December 2024, aims to promote and sell handicraft products created by skilled artisans from the North Eastern States. A total of 50 artisans from different states in the region will participate in the event.
