The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has mediated a meeting on 18 January 2025 between the Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) and the Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) over Thonoknyu Town, Noklak, hosting the Khaozaosie Hok-ah Mini Hornbill Festival that resulted in both parties agreeing for the programme to be held as planned.
Earlier, the Tikhir Council had objected to the proposed event in Thonoknyu due to unresolved land disputes. In an official letter to the Commissioner of Nagaland, the TTC had raised concerns that organising the Khiamniungan festival at Thonoknyu could aggravate tension between the two tribes.
At the meeting with KTC and TTC, the ENPO reminded the Khiamniungan Brothers and Tikhir Brothers to maintain the spirit of peaceful co-existence pledges on 18th December 2019 in the greater interest of the Eastern Nagaland till an amicable solution is arrived at.
The ‘Referendum’ stated: NOW THEREFORE it is reminded once again to give amicable spaces to each other in celebration of any social events/ festivals at Thonoknyu town till such time the landownership of Thonoknyu Town is settled.
The document was signed by L. Ngon Khiamniungan, President, KTC and P. Timong Tikhir, President, TTC in the presence of Chingmak Chang, President, ENPO.
