Seminar on Infrastructure & Sustainable Technology Solutions

A two-day National Seminar on “Infrastructure and Sustainable Technology Solutions: Transforming Agriculture, Markets, and Rural Livelihoods” under the banner of Vision Viksit Bharat@2047 concluded at the School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University (SAS, NU), Medziphema campus on 15th February 2025. The seminar, held during 14-15 February 2025 in hybrid mode, brought together academicians, experts, researchers, and students to discuss innovative solutions that are pivotal in transforming the agricultural landscape, improving market systems, and enhancing the livelihoods of rural communities across India.

The valedictory session was graced by N. Jacob Yanthan, Managing Director & CEO, Nagaland State Agricultural Produce & Livestock Marketing Board Chümoukedima. Jacob stated that organic produce from Kiphire, Mon and other districts reach A.C market and goes to other parts of the country. Stating that there is a huge demand for organic kiwi, pineapple, persimmon, king chilli, ginger, Rajma (kholar beans) etc., but production is not able to meet the buyers demand, he urged the stakeholders to help in connecting the growers and link their produce with the market. He lamented the improper price mechanism in the state, prices varying from district to district. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Deepa Thangjam, organizing secretary.

Over the course of two days, five technical sessions were held under various themes and altogether 80 participants attended the seminar.

According to Press Release from NU PRO Peter Ki, the seminar had commenced with the inaugural ceremony on 14th February with Dr. Girish Patil, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre for Mithun, Nagaland as the Chief Guest. Dr. Patil had highlighted the critical role of sustainable technology and infrastructure in transforming the agricultural landscape and empowering rural communities. In her welcome address Prof. Akali Sema, Pro Vice-Chancellor, School of Agricultural Sciences, NU, Medziphema Campus had highlighted the importance of infrastructure and sustainable technology for transforming agriculture.

Also, in a brief remark, Prof. K.K. Jha, co-convenor of the seminar had also stressed upon following climate resilient agriculture, assured developing robust road infrastructure, strengthening of FPOs, digitization of agriculture using AI, IoT and farmers friendly agricultural apps as well as promoting entrepreneurship development among the rural youths.
