Workshop on commercialization of common carp breeding conducted at Jalukie

The Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Peren organized one day workshop on “Entrepreneurship Development in Commercialization of Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio) Breeding” under extension & training 2023-2024 (State Plan) at Ramdi Thou Farm, Mhainamtsi, Jalukie on 19th February 2025.

District Fishery Officer (DFO), Peren, C. Dory Yanthan gave a brief overview of the entrepreneurship development workshop, wherein she said that it was organized with the objective to sensitize the fish farmers by providing them knowledge and skills on how to successfully breed Common Carp.

The special guest of the Program, ADC Jalukie, T.L Kiusumong Tikhir lauded the department for organizing the training for the most potential and energetic fish farmers in the valley. He expressed hope that such training will immensely benefit as well as create great impact for the fish farmers. Further, he encouraged the farmers to open up their minds, clear their doubts and take back something out of the training session.

Common Carp is a highly sought-after fish species; prized for its adaptability, fast growth rate, and high demand. Recognizing its potential, the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources aims to empower entrepreneurs to take up Common Carp breeding, unlocking the full potential of this industry.

Commercial Common Carp breeding can create employment opportunities for rural youth, women, and marginalized communities. By providing a stable market, entrepreneurs can increase farmers’ and rural communities’ income. This, in turn, enhances food security and nutrition by increasing the availability of protein-rich fish.

The department is committed to supporting entrepreneurs, aiming to create jobs, increase income, improve food security, and promote sustainable aquaculture practices. Ultimately, this initiative will create a brighter future for the communities.

In the technical session, resource person, District Fishery Officer (DFO), Dimapur, Imtisunep gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation on breeding methods of Common Carp.

Assistant Fishery Inspector (AFI), Neimelu Noswe sensitized the farmers on NFDP-National Fisheries Digital Platform, PMMKSSY-Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah Yojana which is the sub scheme of PMMSY-Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana & KCC-Kissan Credit Card Scheme.

The Program was chaired by DFO Peren, C. Dory Yanthan, while experience sharing was delivered by Proprietor Ramdi Thou Farm, Ramdi Thou, and AFI, Chubatemjen proposed the vote of thanks. During the training, the trainees were also given demonstration on preparation of fish feeds by ATMA, Jalukie Block. Altogether, 13 fish farmers from Jalukie Block actively attended the workshop programme.
