Phek Government College observes National Science Day

The Science Club of Phek Government College, Phek on account of National Science Day organised a programme under the theme “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for Viksit Bharat” at the college premises.

National Science Day is celebrated all over India on February 28 to honour the monumental discovery of “Raman Effect” by the great Indian Physicist Dr. C. V. Raman in the year 1928. This discovery paved the way for the importance and development of science and technology in shaping the future of the nation. This day serves as a platform to promote scientific thinking, innovation and technological advancement across India.

The programme was chaired by Dr. Temjennaro Jamir, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics. And the welcome address was conveyed by Mughato K. Kiba, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany (Convenor of Science Club).

The programme saw great contribution from the students who actively participated in the Essay and Painting competitions organised by the Science Club. The results of which were also announced with winners receiving cash prizes and certificates.

The theme of the programme was expatiated by Sabir Chetri, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics. He illuminated on India’s dedication to fostering Youth potential in Science and innovation to create global leaders who can contribute to the country’s goal of becoming a developed nation. He propounded that no innovation is big or small and no innovation is made overnight. Consistency and continuous effort, supplemented with  a curious mind with problem solving mindset are key elements. He gave insights on how Global Leadership in science and technology provides platforms for collaborative research projects to face global challenges like climate change, public health crisis, energy and so forth. Further, he stated that the vision of Viksit Bharat, a developed India is intrinsically linked to continuous and sustainable innovation across all sectors which in turn boosts economic growth, enhance the quality of life, health care, etc.

He pointed out the government efforts in the educational sector through NEP which  focuses on interdisciplinary courses providing flexibility for students to engage in fields they are interested in. Other such government initiatives like INSPIRE program also effectively supports young talents in science and research to pursue higher education. Paid internships at institutes like DRDO, ISRO, ICMR, also provides platforms for young minds. He readily encouraged the students to grab any opportunity that they get and contribute towards the vision of Viksit Bharat, a commitment for betterment of humanity.
