Gracing the occasion, DC Kohima Shanavas C stated that the Northeast region is one neglected area in the country and it requires special attention till the region comes at par with the rest of the states in the country.
He said people of the region should also know how to spread the message that lack of development is not an excuse for corruption also.
“Our people sometimes, they get so accustomed to it that they are okay with what they are and the corruption just goes up and up but it doesn’t come out. So, as citizens we have to be very aware, we have to have the vision that we want to grow along with the country and the rest of the world,” he said.
Due to lack of exposure, children of the region do not dream big or do not dream at all and many are comfortable where they are, Shanavas observed.
He encouraged all the participants to continue participating in good events and said the title they hold carry a lot of meaning because there are a lot of children who are not as privileged as others. “We have to help them. We have to take them along. Then only this region, this state and this country will be successful.”
Meanwhile, Convenor Media Committee Miss Northeast 2022 Sarah Na-am Konyak said the charity sale event is an initiative of Miss Northeast 2022 and undertaken to help the underprivileged children of Nagaland. All the proceeds of today’s event will be donated to Medemer Fund and Childrens home, she informed.
Medemer Fund is a crowd funded project dedicated to bringing about change and empowering children from a less privileged background with skills and knowledge by financially helping their education, she said.
“Medemer fund started in 2019 as on individual effort by Anen Longchar, now run by a group of dedicated youths. Since its inception the team has helped many children and youths by supporting their education.”
Konyak asserted that beauty pageants are not only about seeking physical qualities but the most important quality is compassion and empathy towards fellow citizens. It is an individual’s duty to help those who cannot help themselves, she added.
She also placed on the record that Miss Northeast was held in Nagaland in the year 1996 and 2004. However, Miss Northeast 2022 is the first edition initiated under North East Beauty Pageant Organisation (NEBPO), which is a conglomeration of all the eight Northeastern states’ official State Beauty pageant organisations.
