SSUK backs RMSA 2016 batch teachers; urges state govt to act immediately

The Sangtam Students’ Union Kohima (SSUK) has expressed concern over the hardships faced by the NLRMSA Batch of 2016 due to the prolonged inaction of the state government. In a statement, the student body said it was disheartening that even after the Supreme Court of India delivered a clear verdict granting scale pay to the batch, the order remains unimplemented for over three months. “To make matters worse, their salaries have been withheld for five long months, forcing teachers to continue their duties without pay. Such treatment is not only unjust but also an affront to the dignity of work and a clear example of negligence on the part of the authorities,” the union stated.

Maintaining that teachers are the backbone of society as they nurture the next generation with dedication and sacrifice, SSUK stated that depriving teachers of their rightful dues undermines the very foundation of the education system.

“The SSUK stands shoulder to shoulder with the NLRMSA Batch 2016 in their struggle and fully supports their appeal for justice,” the statement said.

The union urged the state government to act without delay by releasing all pending salaries immediately; implement the Supreme Court’s directive on scale pay in letter and spirit; ensure fairness and accountability in its dealings with educators.

The SSUK also appealed to student bodies, civil societies, and the wider public to unite their voices against such injustice to ensure that teachers are treated with the respect and fairness they deserve.
