20 athletes from Mokokchung to compete in 2nd State Junior Athletics Championship 2025

Twenty young athletes from Mokokchung district, including 15 boys and five girls, are set to compete in the 2nd Nagaland Junior Athletics Championship 2025 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima on September 10.

The team’s official track suits and field uniforms were unveiled on September 8 at the office of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ajit Kumar Verma. Also present at the event were Temsuchuba, SDO (Civil), and members of the Mokokchung Athletics Association, including president Rongsentoshi Jamir and general secretary Imchatsung.

Addressing the athletes, DC Verma emphasized the honour of representing the district, stating that they are the pride of the district. He encouraged the participants to give their best, regardless of the outcome, highlighting the importance of performance and dedication over medals.

Verma also underscored the value of teamwork and unity among athletes, coaches, and officials, and invited participants to engage with the administration after the competition for any further discussion or feedback.

The selected athletes, who earned their spots based on their performance in the Mokokchung District Junior Athletics Meet 2025, will compete across various events in the U-14, U-16, and U-18 categories.

In the U-14 category, Lanutemjen Kichu, Arenlong Tzudir, and Naromenla will compete in Triathlon (A); Lanuroen Jamir and Sungjemmongla Jamir in Triathlon (B); and Imliwar Jamir, Tsukjenlemba Pongen, and Moakala in Triathlon (C). The U-16 boys include Imnungba (60m), Imjungsunep Pongen (600m), Sentizulu Pongen (High Jump), Imnungba (Long Jump), and Lemba Angh (Shotput), while Meyijung T. Jamir will participate in both the 60m and 600m events for the girls. The U-18 boys will feature Tiasunep (100m), Toshiwapang Longkumer (200m), Lanusucha (400m), Taliimeim Jamir (1000m), Ikagho (High Jump and Long Jump), and Sentioenen Jamir (Shotput), with Imnasenla representing the girls in the 100m and 200m events.

The championship management team will be led by Rongsentoshi Jamir as overall in-charge, assisted by Team Manager Furmayang Pongener and Coach Nukshikala Jamir. A two-day coaching camp was conducted on September 5 and 6 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex to prepare the athletes ahead of the championship.

The contingent is scheduled to depart for Kohima on September 9.
