As the prospect of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) merging together advances with the latter announcing its general convention on October 18, the NPF is also expected to finalise its own general convention at the meeting of its central office bearers (COB) on Thursday.
On Wednesday, NPF secretary general and MLA Achumbemo Kikon expressed optimism over ongoing political developments between the two regional parties. “The process is advancing positively,” Kikon told reporters in Kohima.

He said the NPF had passed a resolution during its Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting on September 6—a date that also marks the anniversary of the first ceasefire between the Government of India and Naga national workers. He described the occasion as “historic” and emphasized that the resolution was a “unanimous consensus decision.”
Kikon maintained that the NDPP responded favourably to the NPF’s resolution during their own Central Executive Board (CEB) meeting on September 12.
“They have now called for a general convention, and we are hopeful of a positive outcome,” he stated.
Kikon mentioned that NPF will be holding its COB meeting on Thursday to decide the date and venue for the party’s own general convention. He said the NPF general convention would be decisive in finalizing the matter.
“That day will decide everything. I humbly request the Naga public to uphold us in your daily prayers,” the NPF leader said.
