SBKK hosts first edition of Men’s Open Volleyball tournament

The first edition of the Men’s Open Volleyball Tournament, organized by the Sakhabama Baptist Khriesarüü Krotho (SBKK), on the theme, “Let Your Action Shine” was held on October 2 at the Sakhabama local ground.

Special guest for the event, Limakumla Pongener, EAC Kezocha, encouraged the youth to embrace sportsmanship and discipline, noting that today’s young people are highly enthusiastic about sports. She highlighted that while the origins of sports can be traced back to ancient Greece, the modern Olympic Games were revived to promote peace and understanding among nations, celebrate the achievements of the human body, and encourage international fellowship and goodwill.

The inaugural session was chaired by Pelesato Chüzho, Associate Pastor, SBC, while Visüzo Rhakho, Chairman SBKK, delivered the welcome address.

A total of 22 teams participated in the tournament, representing almost all districts of Nagaland. Notably, the event also drew participants from Manipur and Assam, adding to its inter-state spirit and making the competition more vibrant and diverse.

The matches were conducted under the supervision and guidance of the Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA), who served as the match officials.

The closing ceremony was graced by Neilasanu Sachü, Assistant Research Officer, Art & Culture, as the Valedictory Guest, with Vikhoto Kapu, Co-Convenor of the Organising Committee, chairing the session.

In the much-anticipated final, Zing Zing emerged as the champion of the tournament, walking away with a cash prize of ₹40,000. Zenith Kezo Town secured the 1st Runner-up position with a cash prize of ₹30,000, while Spike Squad Kohima and United Spikers Kohima finished as semifinalists. Individual awards were also presented: Best Spiker went to Vimechozo Thupre of Zenith Kezo Town, while Best Setter was awarded to K. Abinash of Zing Zing Kezo Town.

Thejangulie Yongo, Convenor of the Organising Committee, proposed the vote of thanks, appreciating the collective effort that made the event a success.
