Loyola Higher Secondary School observes cultural day

Loyola Higher Secondary School observed its cultural day at Loyola School assembly ground, under the theme “Embracing Culture” on October 24. The event was graced by Moses Newmai, District Cultural Officer (DCO), Kiphire.

“We are gathered here not just to celebrate the rich culture but to embrace our identity and fostering a sense of unity and progress among all people,” said Newmai in his speech.

He stressed on the need to preserve and sustain one’s culture as it represents “who we are and where we come from”.

Newmai urged everyone to be ambassadors of one’s cultural heritage, and to pursue the values and progressive virtues of forefathers such as hardwork, sincerity and honesty. He also urged the students and elders to be agents for preserving the rich cultural heritage which is inherited from our past in love, peace and unity, respecting every culture of our society.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Fr Phillip Magh who expressed appreciation to the special guest, for gracing the cultural event and to encourage the preservation of one’s cultural heritage. He also acknowledged the teachers and students for their sincere dedication and hardwork which made the event possible and applauded the parents for their guidance and support to encourage their children to be active and an asset for the school and society.

The formal program was followed by various cultural competition- war cry, cultural dress up, Morung inspection of the four school houses (Red, Blue,Green and Yellow), sorting rice with maize, tassel embellishment, stitching, cock fight, crab race, spear kick, dao sharpening and cutting, yarn spinning, top spinning and traditional fire making.

After the competition hour, the prizes were presented by the special guest and Principal.

The program was chaired by Yangthsaba and Apila, with invocation by Fr. Mauris, Vice Principal.  Special presentations were delivered by Lumlise,  School President, Folktales by Atingla, Traditional Ethnic wear from Primary section and folksong Phishu Khidong (Sangtam) from higher secondary students.
