Justice Serto graces legal and human rights campaign at Mon

Justice Songkhupchung Serto, Chairperson of Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC) graced the one-day Legal & Human Rights Campaign as Chief Guest on November 18 at Konyak Union Office Hall. The programme was jointly organized by the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC) and District Level Services Authority Mon, in collaboration with Konyak Student’s’ Union.

Addressing the gathering, Justice Songkhupchung Serto, expressed gratitude to the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) for organising the programme and also for making people from other sub-division to participate in this programme.

Pointing out that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the most influential document, he encouraged all the tribes in Nagaland to translate in their own language for better understanding. Serto said the Human Rights Commission empowers citizens to recognize and defend their fundamental rights, holding public authorities accountable for violations and fostering a society that values human dignity and equality. He urged the gathering to make use of the office, know their rights and fight for justice.

Advocate Moba Konyak, Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel, DLSA Mon spoke on “Right to Health & Education as human Rights”, while “Protection of Human Rights Act” was explained by R Nzanbemo Lotha, Member of NSHRC.

As scheduled, the NSHRC team also visited the Mon District Hospital, District Jail, Police Station and GHSS “C” Mon.

The programme was chaired by Chingkap, Games and Sports Secretary, KSU. Invocation by Pastor Peter, Jahjong & Techa Fellowship KBCM, and KSU presented a special number. Vote of thanks was delivered by the Vice President, KSU.
