The United Sangtam Students Conference (USSC) has expressed “grave displeasure and serious concern” over the sudden introduction of a two‑wheeler ambulance at District Hospital Kiphire.

The vehicle was flagged off by Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman during her recent visit to Kiphire Aspirational District on November 13‑14.

In a strongly worded letter addressed to the Chief Medical Officer, Kiphire, the USSC demanded immediate clarification and necessary action regarding the proposed Two‑Wheeler Ambulance at District Hospital Kiphire), It also described the move as an “insulting and humiliating gesture to the citizens of Kiphire.”

Citing Kiphire’s status as one of the most remote, backward, and neglected districts in the state, the organization stressed the urgent need for a fully functioning four‑wheeler ambulance equipped to handle critical medical emergencies, rather than a “symbolic, unproductive, impractical and grossly inadequate” two‑wheeler.

The USSC demanded the identity of the authority who proposed and approved the procurement of the two-wheeler ambulance for Kiphire; and verification of the claim made by the Finance Minister that the vehicle was introduced based on “local demand”, including details of local stakeholders consulted and the basis for such a demand.

The USSC further demanded immediate replacement of the bike ambulance with at least two light four‑wheeler ambulances suitable for emergency patient transportation in the hilly and geographically challenging terrain of Kiphire.

The organization warned that failure to address these concerns within a stipulated timeframe would  compel USSC to resort to democratic, legal, and mass mobilization measures, holding the responsible authorities fully accountable. It also urged for an urgent and responsible response in the interest of the people of Kiphire.
