Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, has issued an order directing the immediate removal of various forms of roadside encroachments across Kohima City. The directive follows instructions from the State Government, conveyed through the Urban Development Department, via an order dated 18th November 2025.
According to the DC’s order, construction materials, off-road vehicles, unhygienic latrines, pig sties, and other similar structures placed along roadsides have encroached upon the National Highway Right-of-Way (ROW) and adjoining areas. Such encroachments, it stated, not only obstruct the ROW but also compromise road safety, pose health hazards, and contribute to environmental degradation.
In the interest of public health, safety, and maintaining order, all concerned individuals, households, and establishments have been instructed to remove these encroachments immediately.
