Nitsüyan Football Club was crowned champions of the 15th Lotha Football Championship 2026, delivering a stunning 5–0 rout of Nyiro Range FC in the final at Public Ground, Wokha, on February 6.

The summit clash proved to be a one-sided affair as Nitsüyan FC dominated possession, tempo and scoring opportunities from the opening minutes. Ayenmongba’s first-half hat-trick set the tone for the emphatic victory, with the forward striking in the 12th, 17th and 26th minutes to all but decide the contest before the interval.

Nitsüyan FC maintained their attacking momentum in the second half. Mhabemo Kikon added the fourth goal in the 77th minute, while Yiben Ezung rounded off the scoreline four minutes later, sealing a flawless performance. Nyiro Range FC, despite determined efforts, failed to breach a well-organised Nitsüyan defence.

The championship concluded with a formal closing ceremony attended by Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, NCS (Retd.), MLA, as Special Guest, Neibou Sekhose, AIFF Executive Committee Member and President of the Nagaland Football Association (NFA), as special invitee, and Medolenuo Ambrosia Loucü, NFA representative.

Speaking at the ceremony, Humtsoe stated that the existing 4.2-acre Public Ground is now under government guardianship and will continue to be used for public and national programmes. He also informed that the government has acquired 7.5 acres of land at Longsa village for the construction of an astro turf football ground and an indoor stadium for badminton and other indoor sports.

Emphasising football’s unifying power, he said the sport remains deeply rooted in Wokha’s social fabric, with the enthusiasm of spectators extending far beyond the playing field.

She lauded Nagaland’s progress, particularly the participation of the state’s Under-17 women’s team in national competitions, and commended Wokha district for encouraging women’s football at the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, NFA President Neibou Sekhose praised the Wokha District Football Association (WDFA) for successfully organising the tournament year after year and nurturing local talent. He observed that Nagaland’s football ecosystem has evolved significantly, supported by government initiatives and increasing national recognition.

Sekhose noted that Nagaland has entered the top 12 footballing states in India and has received multiple accolades from the AIFF for its grassroots development programmes. Urging players to remain disciplined and focused, he stressed that football continues to serve as a powerful tool for unity and opportunity.
