As the world celebrates Mother’s Day, the occasion serves not only to honour the nurturing roles of mothers but also to recognize their remarkable strength, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit. Among the many women who embody these qualities is Akuminla Jamir, a Dimapur-based entrepreneur and mother of two, who has successfully blended the responsibilities of family life with the demands of running a growing business.

Jamir is the founder of Obsession Online, a boutique that she launched out of a long-standing passion for business and fashion.

In an exclusive Mother’s Day feature for Nagaland Tribune, Jamir revealed that her

entrepreneurial journey began during her college years, where she found herself naturally drawn to small business ideas and the desire to build something of her own. This aspiration eventually took form in the shape of her venture, combining creativity with commerce.

However, her path was not without challenges.

Shortly after launching her boutique, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted normal business operations across the globe. Like many small business owners, she faced significant setbacks. Fortunately, she had already established an online store, which enabled her to maintain a degree of stability and continue serving customers during lockdowns and restrictions.

Balancing the dual roles of entrepreneur and mother has been a unique journey for her, she says. Her daily routine is a blend of managing business tasks and being present for her children. From school drop-offs to handling boutique orders and returning to family responsibilities in the evening, her schedule is tightly packed. Despite the demands, she credits her ability to stay organised and focused to the continuous support she receives from her husband and extended family.

Motherhood has also shaped her professional approach. Over time, she shared, it has taught her valuable skills such as multitasking, emotional intelligence, and remaining composed under pressure, qualities that have greatly enhanced her ability to manage a customer-facing business. In turn, entrepreneurship has reinforced her mental toughness and persistence, qualities that are equally useful in parenting, especially during the more trying days.

To other mothers who aspire to start their own ventures, Jamir’s journey stands as a testament to the power of beginning, even if conditions are not perfect.

When asked what advice she would give to fellow mothers who dream of starting something of their own, she is clear: “Just start. Don’t wait for the perfect time. Start small, learn as you go, and ask for help when you need it.”

Founded in 2018, Jamir’s Obsession Online Store, located in Walford Dimapur, specializes in women’s clothing and footwear, including plus-size apparel and imported wedding gowns sourced from abroad.
