ADC & Executive Officer Medziphema Town Council, P James Swu (NCS ) issued on order in pursuance of the Home department Notification dated 18th May 2026,regarding the implementation of the Solid waste  Management Rules 2026, and with the objectives of promoting decentralized Management of biodegradable waste and ensuring a clean and sustainable Medziphema Town, the Medziphema  Town  Council shall mandatorily establish and maintain a suitable composting facility for the treatment  of biodegradable kitchen waste generated by the households.

The order stated that individual composting is not feasible due to space or other practical constraints. Households may form clusters/common composting arrangements at suitable locations. All households shall comply with this order within 30 days days from the date of issue. The ward sanitation committee shall assist in facilitating cluster-based composting whenever necessary.

Failure to comply with the order or continue disposal of biodegradable kitchen waste through the Town Council garbage collection system shall be treated as non-compliance and may attract appropriate action as prescribed under the solid waste management rules 2026 and other applicable laws.

All concerned resident is directed to extend full cooperation for strict implementation. The order shall come into force with immediate effect.
