MLA and Advisor for CAWD Kudecho Khamo on Thursday has urged banks operating in Nagaland to take a more proactive role in supporting government schemes, entrepreneurs, farmers and other development initiatives.
He was addressing the monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) at Phek.
Khamo expressed concern over the low sanctions of loans under the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative Scheme (CMMFIS), Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and other schemes through the State Bank of India (SBI), Nagaland State Cooperative Bank Limited (NSCB Ltd) and other banks.
Khamo advised the banks to actively facilitate credit access for eligible beneficiaries and support initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, agriculture and local economic development.
He said banks could grow only when the people grow, stressing the need for greater cooperation between financial institutions and the government in advancing development.
Khamo also welcomed Manish Bhartiya, the newly posted Superintendent of Police (SP), Phek, on behalf of the DPDB and the people of Phek district.

He assured him that all elected members and officers posted in the district would extend their full cooperation and support in the discharge of his official duties.
Meanwhile Khamo also congratulated the people of the six Eastern Nagaland districts, namely Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire, Longleng, Shamator and Noklak, on the unanimous passage of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) Bill in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on September 3.
Khamo described the development as the fulfilment of a long-cherished aspiration of the Eastern Naga people and appreciated Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio for his vision and sacrifices in facilitating the process.
During the meeting, PowerPoint presentations were made by the SBI, Phek Branch, and Nagaland State Cooperative Bank Limited, Phek Branch.
The board also decided that presentations at the next DPDB meeting in October would be made by the Home Guards and Civil Defence Department and the CAWD.
