Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Peren, Ahthibung block conducted capacity building on value addition products and demonstration program at Pineapple Farm School, New Chalkot, Ahthibung, Peren on 26th August 2023.

In the first session, ATM Lireni Lotha briefed the farmers on the Topic “Value addition in Pineapple- Preparation of Pineapple Fruit Preserve”, where she explained the basic concept of jam preparation, candy, squash, vinegar in general were discussed.

Later, a detailed procedure of pineapple fruit jam and pineapple peel vinegar preparation was illustrated by Lireni starting from sterilization of jars, cleaning of the fruit, value addition to caning and labeling, all the while maintaining proper hygiene.

Four self help groups from New Chalkot and Saijang under Ahthibung, namely Sahei, Zouzam, Molhoi and Selneng SHG participated in the program organised by ATMA Peren.

The second session was followed by a demonstration in “Bamboo shoot pickle preparation” by ATM Kevingulie Angami who stated that adding value to these edible non-wood forest products which is abundantly available in the area will generate additional income to the farmer.

Another demonstration programme on “Preparation of Bijamrit” – a component of zero budget natural farming was undertaken by ATM Lireni Lotha by making use of locally available Cow dung, urine, water, lime, forest soil and water for seed treatment.

Altogether 20 farmers attended the program and actively participated in the activity. Samples of canning and bottling products, preservatives, muslin cloth, labeling stickers, neem oil, seeds, etc were also distributed during the ATMA Peren program.
