The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has directed all schools and educational institutions under its jurisdiction not to send students to participate in the Independence Day celebration programmes scheduled for August 15, 2026, until further directions.

The notification, issued with reference to the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) notification dated August 12, comes amid concerns over the mandatory playing or singing of the revised Vande Mataram and the need to safeguard students’ freedom of conscience and religious belief.

The AKM has urged all concerned educational institutions to strictly comply with the directive.
