The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has extended its full support and solidarity to the Ao Senden over its continued stand on the proposed realignment of National Highway 702D (NH-702D), calling for a route that is shorter, technically suitable, economically viable and beneficial to the people in the long term.
In a statement issued by its president, Lanulemba Longchar and general secretary, Aomayang Longkumer, the AKM said NH-702D is not merely a road project but a strategic lifeline for Mokokchung and neighbouring districts, playing a crucial role in connecting communities and facilitating the movement of people and goods.
The organisation noted that the highway has a direct bearing on trade, education, healthcare and other economic activities. It also pointed out that government records identify NH-702D as an approximately 85-km highway connecting Mokokchung with Mariani.
AKM maintained that the final decision on the proposed realignment should be based on long-term public interest, technical feasibility, road safety, economic efficiency and future connectivity, rather than short-term considerations.

It also stressed the need to give equal importance to developing proper feeder roads connecting villages and rural communities with the National Highway so that the benefits of the project reach people at the grassroots level.
Appreciating the Ao Senden for consistently pursuing the issue and placing the larger interests of the people before the authorities, AKM urged the Government of Nagaland and all concerned agencies to give serious and favourable consideration to Option-IV, in the event that the concerned stakeholder does not grant an NOC for Option-III (British Road/Chungliyimsen).
The AKM further called for transparency, technical objectivity and timely action, cautioning that the long-pending NH-702D project should not face further unnecessary delays at the cost of the people and regional development.
The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the larger interests of the people and securing the future development of Nagaland.
