The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has demanded for the replacement of three medical specialists who were transferred from Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung on 23rd July 2025 and to fill up other vacancies at the hospital. Giving a time frame of three months, AKM has said that failure of the Health Department in realizing the demands would compel the Union to initiate mass agitation.
In a representation to the Principal Director, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland, the AKM mentioned that it had conducted a surprise inspection at IMDH on 30th January 2025 and discovered that the hospital was in a “dire state due to severe manpower shortages.”
The student body pointed out that IMDH had appointed 24 personnel, including ICU nurses, plumbers, electricians and traffic police, using its own resources to meet operational demands. Additionally, there are five unfilled vacancies for Lab Technicians, aggravating the crisis, it added. “The shortage of doctors and medical personnel has not only resulted in hindering the hospital to provide comprehensive care but many patients have been compelled to seek medical assistance elsewhere, often at great financial and emotional expenses,” AKM stated.
Further, four medical specialists from IMDH had been transferred with only one replacement which has rendered the hospital incapable of providing critical care. Such negligence is unacceptable, AKM stated.
The demands of the Ao Students’ Conference are
- Deployment of new Medical Specialist or reinstatement of the three Medical Specialists that was transferred on 23rd July 2024(Vide-No HFW(A)-12/235/2024/289) within 30 days.
