Alisopur Students’ Union has been providing free tuition for students in Alisopur village in Chare Circle in Tuensang district since the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. ASU started this noble initiative during the period when schools were closed for physical classes after noticing the problems being faced by the children in the village while attending offline classes.

Not only the students but also the parents of students who returned from towns and cities struggled with the new mode of learning. Most of them could not afford to facilitate their children with the equipment required in conducting online classes, which was the need of the hour during the pandemic.
Seeing all the issues, officials of Alisopur Students’ Union took the call to provide extra classes for free to all the students by following all safety protocols.
The initiative received overwhelming response from parents and students alike and therefore even after the physical classes resumed, the student body decided to continue with the free tuitions.
The extra classes and tuitions are in full swing for the students studying in the village government schools and one private school.
ASU informed that organisations and individuals have been supporting the office in organising the classes since the beginning.
In the year 2020-21, the offices of Alisopur Village Council, Alisopur Lithro & Lithrolarü (Church) and Alisopur Mission collaborated with Alisopur Students’ Union in funding and organising the classes.
For the year 2022-till date, ASU office along with some donors (individuals/families) are looking after the whole process that has become a driving force of optimism and hope for both students and parents.
General Secretary of ASU Sichola Sangtam, shared that the union is ever ready to come forward in matters that concern the future of students, believing that “Education is the greatest weapon to change the world” as said by the great leader Nelson Mandela.
