Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign held in Tuensang

An Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign was organized by the 28 Assam Rifles at the Public Ground in Tuensang on November 23. The event featured Miss Nagaland 2022, Hikali Achumi, as the Special Guest, informed a report by DIPR.

During her address, Miss Nagaland Achumi expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Assam Rifles for serving as a beacon of hope in the fight against drugs and for maintaining order in the state. She emphasized the destructive impact of drug addiction on the present generation, noting that it not only harms the body but also destroys families and societies. Miss Nagaland urged the gathering to raise their voices against drug addiction, particularly within the Naga society, encouraging the use of platforms such as churches and societies. She highlighted the prevalence of addiction issues in every family and stressed the importance of the younger generation resisting the lure of drugs.

The Chief Guest, Brigadier Vikram Singh, Commander 7 Sector Assam Rifles, underscored the critical role of Assam Rifles in preventing the drug menace in the border areas adjoining Myanmar. Highlighting the porous borders and the proximity to the infamous triangle of Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos, Brigadier Singh shed light on the easy access of drugs in Nagaland.

In his insightful address, he emphasized that the battle against drugs must be waged at multiple levels— government, community, family, and individual. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of collaboration among various entities such as the Government, Assam Rifles, Civil Administration, CSOs, and Church Organizations. The goal is to create a united front against this menace, spreading awareness and fostering a drug-free environment, he said

The event included a welcome address by Major Neeraj Goswami, an invocation by Rev. Sangkap, Pastor TTBL, cultural dances by CWS and TVSU, a special appearance by the Saramati Sisters and the Jazz band from 28 Assam Rifles. Dr. Senilo from DH Tuensang delivered a lecture on drug awareness, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Brigadier Vikram Singh, DIG 7 Sector.

The function witnessed the attendance from various organizations, including Kripa Foundation Nagaland, Civil Societies, and students from Tuensang Town. A Pledge Ceremony on Anti-Drug was administered at the event, followed by a Mass Bike Rally organized by 20 bikers from the FRONTIER RE EN BLOC Bike club. The rally, starting from Parade Ground, traversed through Tuensang Town and concluded back at Parade Ground, effectively spreading the message of Anti-Drug Awareness throughout the town.
