An arts gathering titled curated by Glimmers, will bring together various forms of creative expression including music, dance, fine arts, fashion, crafts, film, photography and food on October 2 at Ura Academy, Kohima.

The organisers announced the event during a press conference held at Phasaings Restaurant in Kohima, highlighting their vision of using the arts as a means of connecting people and encouraging families and communities to appreciate the deeper purpose of art.

Glimmers President, Avika Sekhose said the gathering was envisioned with “the heart to reach the unreached” through imaginative expression and to bring different forms of art together under one platform.

She said the event would feature music, dance, a fashion show, live painting, short films, photography, handicrafts and other creative works, with participation from children and mothers.

According to the Sekhose,  the gathering seeks to communicate that art is not merely a form of entertainment but can carry a deeper purpose and influence how people understand and experience life.

Sekhose said the organisers also wanted to encourage families to attend together, describing the event as a family gathering, while church leaders, officials and members of different communities are also expected to attend.

Sekhose said they have reached out to churches to promote the event and are expecting participation from church leaders and families.

The programme would also include panel discussions and live painting sessions. Two lucky-draw prizes have been announced, with an acoustic guitar as the first prize and a work of art by Among Venuhas the second prize.

Tickets are available in two categories — a Rs 1,000 family ticket, which will also allow entry for five students, and a Rs 5,000 donor ticket, which admits 10 people. Tickets are available at D Cafe Kohima.

Sekhose informed that the event is planned as an annual gathering, with the present programme intended to offer a glimpse of a broader vision for the future. They said the initiative is expected to grow beyond a one-day event in the coming years.

The organisers also traced the inspiration for the initiative to the history of arts gatherings and international arts festivals within Youth With A Mission (YWAM).

They highlighted the contribution of Colin Harbinson, who, together with his wife Maureen, pioneered the arts movement within YWAM after joining the organisation in 1980. After arriving in Hurlach, Germany, Harbinson introduced an arts-based approach to reaching the unreached and later served as Dean of the Arts for the University of the Nations.

He subsequently founded the International Festival of the Arts and pioneered international arts gatherings including Sacred Fire in St Petersburg, Russia; Love Without Borders in Sofia, Bulgaria; and Ode to Joy in Kunming, China.

The Kohima gathering will feature participation from artists, performers, designers, photographers, craftspeople and other creative groups.

The organisers have set the total number of tickets at 500, with tickets numbered from 001 to 500. As per the terms and conditions, tickets once sold will not be refundable, while damaged or mutilated coupons will not be accepted for the lucky draw. Winners must produce their original coupons to claim prizes before leaving the venue, and the organisers’ decision will be final.
