The UDID Publicity, Awareness & Enrollment Drive was successfully conducted for Zunheboto district on 9th November 2024. The event aimed to raise awareness on the Unique Disability ID (UDID) and facilitate the enrolment process for individuals with disabilities.
The programme saw informative initiatives, organised by DWO, which featured, ENT Specialist, Hezukhu Memorial District Hospital, Dr. Josea Sema, providing valuable insights on the medical aspects and benefits of UDID, stating that, according to the Indian Government 2011 census, out of 100%, 20% were disabilities and further supplemented that UDID is significant to access welfare schemes and services meant for persons with disabilities.
Retainer Lawyer, Zunheboto District Legal Service Authority (ZDLSA) Esther Yepthomi spoke on various legal rights and protections available to individuals with disabilities under the UDID programme. She stated on an Act 1995, commonly known as the Disability Act 1995 was landmark legislation in India aimed at ensuring the rights and welfare of people with disabilities. She added that, the Act promotes equality of opportunity and discrimination, and subsequently create a more inclusive society.
State Coordinator for UDID, Akihoto K, highlighted on the objectives, benefits, and enrollment process of the UDID scheme. He elaborated about an important initiative that is transforming the lives of person with disabilities across our country.
He further spoke on “what is UDID”, terming it as, Unique Disability ID which is a digital identification system introduced by the Department of Empowerment of person with disabilities. The system aims to provide unique identity to every person with disabilities in the country, simplifying access to government provided schemes and services.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Welfare Inspector, H. Sasuli Sumi and welcome address was delivered by District Welfare Officer, Zunheboto, Y. Tauhong Ngonyen.
