Bid to induct Yilobemo Erui’s famed crop in Guinness World Records for ‘Tallest Coriander Plant’; scientists study plant

Wokha: Dist Admin submits application to Guinness World Records on behalf of Erui

The application to induct Yilobemo Erui’s famous coriander plant in the Guinness World Records has passed the first stage as the bid was acceptance. The District Administration, Wokha, on behalf of the Wokha Village farmer, had submitted the application under the category of the ‘Tallest Coriander Plant’.

The second stage required verification of the plant by specialists in the field. Showing remarkable support, several departments in Wokha district came forward, dispatching their scientists and experts to carry out extensive study on the ‘dhania’ plant standing tall in Yilobemoi Erui’s kitchen garden.

These departments included District Administration, Department of Horticulture, Department of Agriculture, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), and Land Records and Survey.

The experts who conducted the verification on 25th April 2024 were: Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Wokha, Dr. Sandeep Suresh Deshmukh; Scientist (Horticulture) from ICAR Nagaland, Dr. Azeze Seyie; Scientist (Plant Breeding) from ICAR Nagaland, Dr. Harender Verma; Chief Technology Officer, KVK Wokha Dr. Moaakum Pongen; Assistant Chief Technology Officer, KVK Wokha Dr. Bl Mhalo Tungoe; District Agriculture Officer Wokha, Moainla Pongen; and, Assistant Horticulture Officer  Y Shanchobeni Humtsoe.
