The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Wokha Unit, led by it’s president Shanchothung A Ezung, organised a free medical camp and distributed free medicines at Elumyo Village on August 4 with the aim of making basic healthcare services accessible to residents, particularly senior citizens.

The camp was conducted by Medical Officer Dr. Yanbemo Murry and dentist Dr. Chumthungo Humtsoe, with assistance from CMO Wokha and nurses of the Health and Wellness Centre (HWC), Elumyo Village. Medicines distributed during the camp were sponsored by Dimapur Municipal Councillor Khekato Awomi.

According to the organisers, the initiative primarily targeted elderly residents, many of whom face difficulties in accessing healthcare due to the village’s remote location, limited medical facilities and the inability to travel long distances for treatment. The camp sought to bring essential medical services closer to the community while ensuring that those in need received timely consultations and medicines.

During the camp, patients were examined and treated for a wide range of health conditions. However, the most common ailments observed among those who attended were knee pain, joint pain, gastric problems, high blood pressure and dental issues. Many elderly residents shared that their knee and joint pain were largely caused by the physically demanding nature of their daily work, which involves carrying heavy loads and walking long distances over hilly terrain to reach their fields. Medicines were prescribed and distributed according to each patient’s medical condition and requirements.

The village Goanburas and residents expressed gratitude to the BJYM Wokha Unit for organising the medical camp and travelling to the village despite the poor road conditions triggered by monsoon.  They also thanked the sponsors, doctors and healthcare workers for providing free medical consultations, treatment and medicines to the villagers.
