Kidima: Boil in the skin is communicable and can infect other Thutho even in different sites of shed

Thutho (cattle) boil in the skin infected at a shed in Kidima village as of 13 July 2023, a DIPR report stated. The Thutho cattle boil in the skin was initially infected in the Kithozou shed, Kidima village under Kohima district, Nagaland, eight days ago.

The boil in the skin grows to a bigger size in high temperatures. The infected Thutho loses appetite and experiences difficulty in breathing. The boil in the skin is communicable and can infect other Thutho even in different sites of the shed. The owner of the Thutho said two cows miscarried due to the continuous use of injections. The infected Thutho were kept in an isolated shed.

The staff of the Sub-Health Centre of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services took necessary medical care. However, higher-level officials are required for the control of the infection.

The report did not mention if the cattle boil was the lumpy skin disease (LSD) that is affecting cows across the country.

The Community Thutho Project at Kidima was formally inaugurated on November 29, 2021, under the aegis of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Government of Nagaland.
