Census 2027 training for supervisor, enumerators underway in Dimapur

More than 600 Census Officers, Supervisors and Enumerators from Dimapur district are undergoing intensive training as preparations gather pace for the Digital Census 2027, the eighth Census to be conducted since India’s Independence.

The training programme, organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Dimapur, is being conducted in batches at Livingstone Foundation College of Nursing, Dimapur on June 11.

Speaking at the programme, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, DC and Principal Census Officer, Dimapur, stated that around 600 supervisors and enumerators would undergo intensive three-day training in batches from June 11 to 25 for the successful conduct of Census 2027. He described the participants as fortunate to be entrusted with the important national exercise and urged them to treat the assignment as both a privilege and a responsibility.

Recalling his involvement in the 2011 Census while serving as EAC in Dimapur, Dr. Chang highlighted the significance of the census in shaping government policies, welfare programmes and development planning. He informed that the first phase, House Listing Operations, would be conducted from July 1 to 31, 2026, while the second phase, Population Enumeration, would take place in February 2027.

Emphasising the need for accuracy, he urged enumerators and supervisors to ensure that households provide correct information, as census data forms the basis for socio-economic assessments and government schemes.

He assured full support from the district administration and master trainers throughout the exercise and expressed confidence that, through teamwork and cooperation, the district would successfully carry out the Census 2027 operations.

The programme was chaired by Imliwabang, EAC, Dimapur.
