A Census Awareness and Sensitisation meeting with Gaon Buras and Master Trainers was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Dimapur, on June 29 to prepare for the forthcoming Census exercise and strengthen public awareness and cooperation.

Addressing the meeting, Wiridin, NCS, SDO (Civil), Dimapur and Charge Officer, urged participants not to be misled by rumours or misinformation regarding the Census. He said enumerators and supervisors had undergone adequate training and were well prepared to carry out the exercise. Explaining the House Listing Operation, he said every structure, whether occupied or vacant, would be numbered and recorded, while enumerators would use a mobile application containing 34 questions to collect information.

Emphasising the importance of the exercise, Wiridin said household enumeration forms the backbone of the Census and appealed to citizens to provide only accurate and truthful information. He called upon Gaon Buras to nominate youth volunteers to assist enumerators during the house numbering exercise and sought their cooperation in demarcating village and enumeration block boundaries.

He further stated that each supervisor would oversee six enumerators and appealed to village authorities and the public to guide and assist Census teams during field visits.

Highlighting the importance of confidentiality, he said Census information is strictly confidential and warned that any breach of confidentiality is punishable under the law. He also encouraged participants to spread awareness in their respective villages and motivate residents to fully cooperate with the Census teams.
