Chief Secretary J. Alam holds monsoon preparedness meeting

Chief Secretary and Chairman State Executive Committee (SEC), NSDMA J. Alam, chaired a videoconference monsoon Preparation meeting today with Rupin Sharma, DGP Nagaland, ADGP Nagaland Renchamo, in the presence of Home Commissioner Vikeye, Commissioner & Secretary Lhouchalie Viya, NSDMA and with all the Deputy Commissioners and Chairpersons of DDMAs, at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall.

According to a press release by the NSDMA, the meeting was held to review preparedness of the districts for the upcoming monsoon season. The Chief Secretary took a detailed review of the status of availability of foodgrains, essential medicines, PoL, and road connectivity etc. in each district. He asked the District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to conduct social work in their respective districts and take steps to clear drainages and culverts with the help of other government departments for smooth water flow. All road construction agencies were asked to position adequate machineries at vulnerable spots on arterial roads for emergency road clearance in case of any rain induced blockades.

The Chief Secretary also directed all the Deputy Commissioners and Chairpersons of DDMAs to work closely with other line departments to address the issues and activate Interagency groups (IAGs) involving Civil Societies and other NGOs for proper information dissemination and smooth management during disasters. The meeting with the districts was followed by a review of the road connectivity issues with NHIDCL, State PWD officials led by Commissioner and Secretary Works and Housing K Yhome and respective Chief Engineers. Commissioner and Secretary UD and MA Kenilo Apon and other senior officials of Urban Development Department and NSDMA were also present. All the agencies were directed to ensure proper connectivity and functionality of major roads in the state during the Monsoon period.
