Citybarn-The health centre, an innovation project under Nagaland State AIDs Control Society (NSACS) was launched on August 7,  at City barn Tinpati High School road.

Dr. Bernice D Thaprü, Joint Director (Prevention) highlighted the project in brief where she mentioned the increasing trend of HIV positive cases among the youths in Nagaland. Based on these observations, the idea to make a centre very accessible, youth friendly and approachable was set up. This centre will not only be about HIV but it will include Adolescent clinic, Rehab, SRH services, TI, OST,ICTC,ART ,STI, TB, Hepatitis, informed Dr. Thaprü.

She also expressed that the centre is a safe place for youths where they can open up about their problems which cannot be shared with their family or parents.  She thanked all the stakeholders, the influencers, NGOs and others for always supporting and making this happen. The initiative was virtually launched in other three districts namely Wokha,Tuensang and Dimapur.

Special Guest  V.Kezo, Comm and Secy. Health and Family welfare and chairman NSACS spoke on the need to inculcate good values in children beginning from home. “Today’s education does not teach you to value to be sincere, be honest and be respectful or the good value of life. These things starts at home and schools but are not  taught  or valued  anymore, so facilities like this is not only about helping others but also share and design methods and way to live well and good,” stated Kezo.

Kezo acknowledged the project underscoring that it is a good example of community intervention to preserve and protect the well being of our young generation. “The present Education system also needs to include a system intended to create a positive  value of life,” added Kezo exuding optimism that the initiative will provide stability to the young where they can face their life with confidence and responsibility.

In his keynote address, Ahu Sekhose, Project Director NSACS stated that everyone has a role to play when it comes to creating awareness and spreading positivity. Dr. Sekhose acknowledged Dr. Bernice for the innovative idea where she saw the Increasing trend among the young people in the age group of 15-24 age which are in High Risk Group (HRG), spreading positivity and conceptualising an idea and initiatives in a form of a proposal to NACO . “NACO was very positive about it and she had been working with great enthusiasm,” said Dr. Sekhose.

He also informed that City Barn has a very strong meaning: CITY which stands for Catch them young and BARN: Be aware , Reach on time, No to unsafe behaviour. “I hope that the place will be give positive impact to the society and will become a happening place soon,” said Dr. Sekhose.

The centre will includeincludee counselling services, in-house help fast facility, access to Anonymous Q & A., Thematic health sessions and linkages with specialised resource person from relevant department- Youth specific STI & Reproductive health, mental health, addiction counselling, testing and treatment, life skill session, career counselling etc.

The program was blessed with invocation and blessings by Associate Pastor, SBCK Lujeka Assumi while Chief Functionary Guardian Angel Khekato Chophy pronounced the vote of thanks.  Deputy Director (IEC) Thejangunuo Theunuo chaired the program.
