CM launches Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio launched the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme today at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly as the Chief Guest. The Scheme is a World Bank supported Central Sector Scheme of Government of India.

In his address, the Chief Minister and Chief Guest of the event highlighted how the Government of Nagaland has for the longest time focused on empowering entrepreneurs in Nagaland through various initiatives such as Year of Entrepreneurs, Year of Farmers, Year of Youth Empowerment. He said that businesses in the state have been predominantly centred around trade and retail and expressed his delight to see a gradual shift towards manufacturing and industrialisation.

Rio emphasized that economic progress in Nagaland can only be achieved when businesses are created and establishing a circular flow of income both within and beyond our state. He further added that businesses should be nurtured into scaling up production and manufacturing on a larger scale to not only meet domestic demand but also to expand our reach to other states and international markets.

The launch programme began with Advisor Industries & Commerce, Nagaland, Hekani Jakhalu giving the opening remark where she highlighted the current state and challenges of MSMEs in Nagaland and emphasized on the importance of elected members working at their respective constituencies to encourage entrepreneurship. She further stressed on the development in sectors such as power, roads and bridges, water, transport etc. for industries to grow in the state.

Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Shanavas C, IAS gave a presentation about the RAMP Scheme.

The Scheme is designed to address several critical areas essential for strengthening the MSME sector of the state. The key interventions of the scheme are to enhance firm capabilities through capacity building programmes, promoting Make in Nagaland products which will help in substituting imports from outside the state, improve energy efficiency through competitiveness support and green finance initiatives, enhancing access to finance and market through interactions between field level experts, entrepreneurs and enterprises, institutional strengthening through various Management Development Programmes (MDP) and trainings as well as innovative interventions like Banker facilitation cell.
