Personnel of 78 Bn CRPF and Sechü Zubza police recovered 14.312 kg of suspected opium on May 23 during frisking and checking on NH-29, Peducha old police picket, from a Tata-Winger bearing registration No.MN-06B-1350 coming from Senapati (Manipur) towards Dimapur.
An official bulletin informed that the owner of the suspected opium, one Dharam Singh, a resident of Ludhiana (Punjab) had boarded the vehicle from Senapati. When the vehicle was stopped for checking and passengers were asked to come out and open their luggage, the alleged accused Singh stated to have requested to use the toilet . When permitted to do so, he attempted to run towards the hills. Personnel present there reportedly apprehended him after running about 500 meters.

He was brought back and was asked to open his bags, wherein two suspected opium wrapped in in black poly bags, two tobacco (khaini) boxes, one small packet and cash amounting to ₹56,500 were found. Upon weighing, the suspected opium was found to be 14.312 kg. Singh and the recovered items from his possession were handed over to Zubza police station for necessary legal action, the update said.
