CSOs form Mon and Assam’s Charaideo District resolve to unitedly address Angjangyang incident; DC Mon lifts travel advisory

Tizit (Mon): CSOs resolve to form Joint Action Committee to ensure continued progress of our collaborative efforts

In light of the incident at Angjangyang Sub-division of Mon District where two residents of Sonari, Charaideo District, Assam lossed their lives, the representatives of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from Mon District, Nagaland and Charaideo District, Assam held a meeting at Konyak Union Office, Tizit on Friday with the aim to “fostering peace, unity, and strengthening the relationship between the Ahom/Assamese people and Konyak Naga people.”

On the Angjangyang incident, the organisations agreed that “in the event of awaited forensic report found it as murdered, both the SOs shall pressurize the district administration and Police for a prompt investigation to apprehend the culprit(s) at the earliest. The CSOs resolved to form a Joint Action Committee to ensure the continued progress of our collaborative efforts in promoting peace, unity, and harmonious relations between our communities. The organisations will meet next on 10th October 2023.

The organisations also resolved that “open and transparent communication will enable both sides to address issues promptly and amicably.” It was also agreed upon that no incident or crime that arise in the future on either side of the boundary would not be taken as a communal issue. They committed to work together to address any issue legally, adhering to the provisions of the law.

The CSOs further committed to hold regular communication and coordination meeting for discussing emerging issues, sharing information, and strengthening our partnership.

Consequently, the Deputy Commissioner of Mon district has withdrawn the travel advisory cautioning commuters from traversing through Sonari in Choraideo District of Assam, stating that the “situation is returning to normalcy”.
