Expressing concern over the rising number of non-indigenous people and illegal immigrants, the Chümoukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) has called for strict implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the entire district of Chümoukedima.
In a press release issued on February 19, the CTYO President Hovise Naleo and General Secretary Avi Makritsu stated that the mechanism of ILP has not been implemented in letter and spirit even though Chümoukedima came under the purview of ILP with effect from 1 August 2022 as per notification.
The CTYO, therefore, called for the administration to ensure the thorough and precise enrolment of ILP.
Further, the organization highlighted the emergence of multiple elements of collecting “tax”, causing hardships to the business community and general public of Chümoukedima Town. “ CTYO will not tolerate antisocial elements and strict action will be taken against those indulging in unlawful demands. The office would like to reiterate that it will remain steadfast on the “One government, one taxation” declaration. The citizens of Chumoukedima unanimously resolved to pay tax to only one entity per the 13th February 2014 resolution,” asserted the CTYO.

Reiterating that it will not tolerate any activities that disrupt the peace of Chumoukedima town, the CTYO warned that anyone engaged in activities such as drinking in public places, substance abuse, rowdy, intoxicated behavior, loud music during the wee hours will be dealt strictly with. “The general public is also advised to be cautious of thieves as many thievery cases have been reported and they remain at large. Business establishments are urged to check their inventory for expired goods and refrain from selling such items or any items beyond the MRP. Strict action will be taken against defaulters,” stated the CTYO.
It has also urged the concerned department to check vehicles especially motorbikes with retrofitted exhausts and book the offenders as per the law. “These loud bikes are hugely annoying and stressful to people and students at this time of exams. However, this public nuisance has been on the rise notably on Sundays on the NH29 highway, even though such modification is prohibited under the law,” stressed the organization.
