Cyclone Midhili: Mizoram, Tripura on Red Alert for Extremely Heavy Rainfall

New Delhi: Alert issued for light to moderate rainfall for Nagaland, Manipur, Assam and parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya

Red alert for Extremely Heavy Rainfall were issued for the states of Mizoram and Tripura as the cyclonic storm “Midhili” makes its way to Bangladesh coast.

The Indian Meteorological Department on Friday informed that Cyclone Midhili is likely to continue to move North-northeast wards of the Bay of Bengal and cross Bangladesh coast close to Khepupara with wind speed of 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph late on 17th November or in the early hours of 18th November.

IMD has issued alert of light to moderate rainfall for the other Northeast states of Nagaland, Manipur, Assam and parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya on 17 and 18 November. Moreover, moderate flash flood risk has also been declared over some of the watersheds and neighbourhoods in the NE stated and Gangetic West Bengal for the next 24 hours as a result of Cyclone Midhili.

“Latest imagery indicates the spiral band has entered into land over coastal Bangladesh hence land interaction has started. The convective cloud mass also lies over Mizoram and Tripura which may lead to intense precipitation over Bangladesh, Tripura and Mizoram”, IMD stated.
