The Deputy Commissioner of Longleng has directed all dealers, distributors and intermediaries in the district to ensure there is no hoarding, black marketing, artificial scarcity or overpricing of essential and non-essential commodities following widespread road disruptions caused by incessant rainfall.

In an official notification, the Deputy Commissioner stated that continuous heavy rain has severely damaged several National Highway stretches, including the Longleng–Changtongya, Longleng–Longieng–Lamlu, Longleng–Aboi (Mon) and Longleng–Tuensang routes, severely affecting and completely cutting off inter-district and intra-village connectivity across Longleng district.

Considering the prevailing situation, the district administration said it has become necessary to ensure the uninterrupted availability and equitable distribution of essential commodities throughout the district.

Accordingly, all dealers, wholesalers, distributors and other intermediaries have been directed to  ensure that there is no hoarding, black marketing, artificial scarcity, or overpricing of essential commodities and non-essential commodities.

To safeguard consumer interests and maintain a steady supply of commodities, the administration has constituted an inspection mechanism under which daily inspections and surprise checks will be carried out across the district.

The notification further directed all dealers, distributors, wholesalers and intermediaries to submit daily stock reports to the Inspection Team, which will compile and forward the information to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office for monitoring.

The district administration has warned that any person found violating the directives will face strict action under the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
