DC Mokokchung inspects Dikhu bridge; road diversion for goods carrying vehicles

Mokokchung: Given the poor condition of the bridge, only Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) and passenger carrying vehicles are allowed to ply through the bridge

Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS inspected Dikhu Bailey Bridge situated at 12 Km, NH 202 Mokokchung-Tuensang road on 31 August 2022. Officials in the team included Commandant, 23 Assam Rifles, Viplove, SP, Mokokchung, ADC, Longkhim, Phulebhe K. Yepthomi and National Highway 202 Mokokchung-Tuensang, Er. L. Akum and council members from Longsa village.

As per a report by Nagaland Tribune, the damaged to the bridge was caused by heavy goods-laden trucks. As per the Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B) National Highway, Tuensang although trucks are informed not to carry more than 10 tonnes, this is rarely adhered to and causes more damage to the bridge.

After inspection, the team, due to poor condition of the bridge, decided to allow only Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) and passenger carrying vehicles to ply through the bridge, and all the goods carrying (loaded) vehicles are to be diverted through Longmisa village, Mokokchung to Thronger village, Tuensang, till further arrangement is made.
