In view of the onset of monsoon season, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mon and chairman District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Wennyei Konyak has issued precautionary measures for the citizens of Mon district.
In an official notice, the DC stated that heavy rainfall is expected during this monsoon period in lowland and foothill areas of Mon district and the region is likely to experience inundated water logging, flash floods, landslides and rising water level in the rivers and streams because of heavy precipitation in the hill sector.
“Therefore, as a precautionary measure and in order to avoid any eventualities, the general public of Mon district is hereby advised to refrain from going to vulnerable spots like landslide prone areas and also avoid movement and overnight stay along the river banks for picnics, fishing and other water related activities or shelter under large trees,” the official said.
