The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma IAS and the Sr Superintendent of Police, Vesupra Kezo along with some officials of the district administration and PWD (NH) on Thursday visited some of the landslide sites that severely damaged NH-2.
The massive landslide between Chuchuyimlang and Unger villages carried away about 100 meters and damaged beyond 200 meters of the NH-2 disrupting transportation of essential commodities and other goods. The NH-2 is crucial for transportation of goods for four major districts in the state including Mokokchung, Longleng, Zunheboto and Tuensang districts.
The DC and SP Mokokchung along with other govt officials assessed the damage caused by the landslide at NH-2 and interacted with the Village Council members of Chuchuyimlang and Unger villages. The district administration along with the two village councils have provided an alternate road bypassing the affected landslide area in NH-2 for light vehicles. However, since the road is narrow, the DC Mokokchung has appealed the two Village Councils and the landowners to donate land so that the department of PWD (NH) can enlarge the road for better and safe passage of vehicles.

The massive landslide has severely damaged the road (NH-2) between the two villages that according to officials of PWD (NH), it will take several months to overhaul/construct the road. With the onslaught of monsoon season with incessant downpour of torrential rain, there were several massive landslides in many parts of Mokokchung district recently.
The DC and SP along with the officials also visited the landslide at NH-702 leading to Longleng and Tuensang districts from Changtongya Town. They assessed the damage caused by the landslide and interacted with the victims. According to sources, two houses were completely damaged and few houses that were partially damaged by the landslide.
The DC and SP were accompanied by SDO (C) Changtongya, EAC Chuchuyimlang, EAC Mokokchung, Executive Engineer PWD (NH) Mokokchung, SDO PWD (NH) Changtongya and a host of other officials.
