DEF Wokha celebrates Zero FIR Pendency, 256 cases dispensed

To mark the achievement of Zero FIR pendency (zero case pendency) by completing investigation of all cases registered in the Unit, a celebratory event was organised at Superintendent of Police, Wokha conference hall on July 31. According to a DIPR report, IGP (Range) Nagaland Limasunep, IPS graced the celebration as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering IGP, Limasunep, said dispensing 256 cases is a remarkable and great achievement and lauded the entire team led by the Superintendent of Police, Wokha Aotula T Imchen, IPS and all ranks & files of DEF Wokha for the achievement. Encouraging the officers to work with dedication and devotions, he urged them to continue with the good work in serving the people of the district and highlighted the significance of this accomplishment in setting a new benchmark for efficiency and responsiveness within the unit.

To strengthen the justice delivery mechanism, Limasunep urged the officers to work in co-ordination with allied institution like the District Administration and Judiciaries. Emphasising on the new c’iminal laws, he appealed the officers especially the Officer In-Charge (OCs) and Investigation Officers (I/Os) to understand the laws and responsibilities and act accordingly in delivering justice fairly.

He further reminded them to shoulder their responsibilities with utmost sincerity and continue working as a team to get more of such achievements in days to come also.

ADC, Wokha Furhesie Nyuwi, speaking during the occasion, said this event is an encouraging and a proud moment for Wokha Police which reflects the diligence of all the Officers involved in delivering public service efficiently. Nyuwi congratulated the SP and all ranks & files for achieving zero FIR pendency.

District & Session judge, Wokha Nino Iralu, NJS who also spoke during the occasion, highlighted the various provisions of laws where Police Officers need to follow while in the process of handling cases in order to dispense justice fairly. She also informed during the gathering that, the State has come out with Legal Aid Defence Counsel system for the very poor victims who needs legal assistance, and said Wokha district has three (3) defence counsel to assist the poorest of the poor and marginalized section of people and stated that this service can be availed through the Wokha District Legal Service Authority (WDLA) and urged public to avail the service.

Presenting briefly about the overview of Zero FIR pendency, Superintendent of Police, Wokha Aotula T Imchen, IPS said, “As we celebrate today, let us also take a moment to reflect on the responsibilities that come with this achievement. Zero case pendency is not the end of our journey; it is a new beginning. It is an ongoing challenge. It requires constant vigilance, innovation, and commitment. We must continue to refine our processes, leverage technology, and work collaboratively to ensure that we uphold the standards of justice and efficiency. It sets a standard that we must now strive to maintain and exceed. Our community looks to us not just to solve cases but to build a safer, more just society.”

She also thanked DGP, Nagaland, senior officers, colleagues, various departments and stakeholders which played vital role in reaching this milestone.

The number of cases cleared since January 2023 till June 2024 are as follows:

Cases cleared: 256

Charge sheeted: 234

FR :22

Number of cases convicted: 28

Number of cases acquitted: 1.

During the occasion the following officers were awarded for the remarkable service rendered: ASI Zubemo (24 cases cleared), UBSI Mhonyamo (24 cases cleared), ASI Renathung (21 cases cleared), UBSI Thungchio (17 cases cleared), ASI Bichamo (13 cases cleared), NDPS detection-UBSI Yanathung, I/C   Cyber Cell Unit ASI Sothungo Murry and Crime I/C ASI Suipeu Hegui.

The programme was chaired by SDPO, Sangthing Khiam, NPS, ASP, Wokha K.Soriso delivered the welcome address while vote of thanks was proposed by SDPO, Bhandari Vekato Chishi, NPS.
