Demand for ‘Frontier Nagaland’ grows louder: Eastern Nagaland to abstain from participating in state and central election processes

The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation, ENPO have resolved to abstain from participating in any election process of both the State and Central, until and unless a separate statehood demand of the people of Eastern Nagaland for ‘Frontier Nagaland’ is fulfilled.

The decision comes following a joint consultative meeting called by the ENPO with selected leaders of Eastern Nagaland, Talk Team, seven Tribal bodies and Frontal organisations of Eastern Nagaland on Friday, at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur. Wherein, the house after thorough deliberation unanimously adopted a four-point resolution, a press release issued by ENPO informed.

The ENPO have resolved that, “people of Eastern Nagaland shall not participate in any election process of the state and central until and unless a separate statehood, ‘Frontier Nagaland’ is fulfilled as demanded by the people of Eastern Nagaland through the grassroots,” the organisation has directed its seven Tribal bodies to mobilize at the grassroots for the success of this resolution.

It also resolved that, ENPO along with its seven Tribal Bodies and Frontal Organizations shall jointly appeal to the NSCN (K-YA) group to maintain peace, and not disturb the peaceful co-existence in any manner within Eastern Nagaland region and would ensure that this genuine appeal is respected and adhered to however, it cautioned that the public of Eastern Nagaland shall take a stand if this appeal is not honoured.

The house also resolved that it shall jointly ask Wanching village to pursue for the obtaining of a NoC from neighbouring Ao villages for merger of Anaki Phom village under Longleng District from Mokokchung District.

“Issues within the Eastern families shall be taken up in an understanding manner at a later stage,” the release stated.

It further resolved to constitute a committee to study and recommend suggestions for resolving the issue relating to Eastern Sumi at the earliest.
